I have always hated shaving because it would leave my face feeling raw. After a couple of years of shaving daily, I finally surrendered to shaving every other day. This gave my face time enough to heal before I hacked it again. Unfortunately, this meant that every other day I had a face of itchy whiskers to deal with. I also have a dark, heavy beard so about half the time I looked pretty scruffy.
About a year ago my wife bought me an electric razor as a Christmas present. While this razor allowed me to shave daily, I never got a close shave. My face was always rough and scratchy. I also have whiskers that are a bit curly, so it was hard to actually shave every single whisker off.
The answer to my shaving dilemma turns out to be wet shaving, which involves using a shaving brush to make lather and apply it to your face and then shaving with a double edge safety razor. I have only been shaving this way for a couple of weeks, but I have noticed some things. My shaves seem to last longer. I don’t get a five o’clock shadow at noon any more. My face feels a lot smoother. I also enjoy shaving now. I love to make a batch of lather and I love the feel of the brush spreading it on my face. I love the sound that the blade makes as it runs across my face.
My shaving isn’t perfect. I haven’t been able to shave once without drawing a little blood. However, the nicks that I do cause seem to heal a lot more quickly now. I have a terrible time shaving my upper lip without nicking it. My neck is also a place that seems particularly sensitive. But I think that things are slowly improving.

I finished the first set of pine trees and filled in the cottage roof. I really like the look of the vignette so far.

I finished the upper-right butterfly (complete with blending filament) and the rose. When I think that I am close to finishing, I realize that I have more to do. There are some tree roots that need to be completed and I also have to stitch the interlocking hearts.

This is one of those pieces where I can work on it for hours and it doesn’t look like I have done much at all. I mostly filled in spaces in the rocks.

I am still reluctant to start on another over-one animal. Instead I worked on the ark. There really isn’t all that much left before it is completed.

For a change of pace I worked on the sky and the lighthouse. It looks like it would take just a little more work to finish the tower and the windows in the living quarters.

Back to Merry Christmas A to Z and working on the “header” of the piece. The vines for the ivy have been backstitched and I have started stitching “Merry Christmas”. Right now the letters aren’t very legible, that will have to wait until I work on this again.

This feels like it is progressing really quickly, considering the amount of time that I have spent on it. I am excited to see more of the wing come into existence.

I have been avoiding working on the leaves of the plant that sits on the pedestal in Stroke of Midnight. I generally don’t like stitching little patches of color that spread all over the place. This time I was surprised to find that this was actually fun to stitch. However, I have come to the conclusion that these won’t look like actual leaves until all the backstitching is completed.

I am beginning to think that working on a different piece every night was a good idea. I enjoyed working on A Perfect Setting thig time around. I wanted to see how much I could do before my time was up. I actually think that I did quite a bit, even though all I really accomplished was stitching more of the grass. I am becoming impatient to start on the house. If I do start on the house, will I ever want to work on the background again. And when am I ever going to really start to stitch what will eventually be the sky?
